In the Midst of the Breeze

On any given day, there is a breeze blowing somewhere. Sometimes the breeze is cool, sometimes the breeze is warm, and sometimes the breeze is down right hot or cold.  Sometimes the breeze catches our breath and takes us back to another time, a happy time, and sometimes the breeze brings tears to our eyes reminding us of a day; a heartbreaking day.

Lately, there seem to be too many days filled with a sadness which brings tears, that meander down our face and shocks our very soul. Pick up a newspaper on any given day or flip to any news channel and what you see and what you hear will take your breath away, like a strong breeze on a cold winter’s day.  News of terrorist attacks, home invasions, drugs, teenagers fighting, bullying, stealing, shootings, disrespect for our men and women in authority, and non-acceptance of those who are different seem to be increasing, making it feel like the scales are unbalanced.

Don’t misunderstand me, there are certainly wonderful things happening. There are many, many good and loving people reaching out, trying to make a difference, but still, it appears that a lot more compassion, kindness, forgiveness, acceptance, and love is needed.

So my questions to you dear reader are; how do we get back what we once had?  You know, where neighbors helped one another, children of all ages respected their parents, and to the time we felt safe in our own homes, walking around our towns, or traveling to discover new and exciting places.  More than that: how do we restore peace to our hearts?

I have been told that times have changed, and yes, I agree with that, but what I do not agree with is the hatred and deliberate hurt that seems to be occurring and reoccurring on a daily basis.  Perhaps we can’t change everything back to the good old days, however, I believe that we can turn the situation around one day at a time.

So, where do we start?  We start with the Man who created us; God.

Each one of us regardless of the color of our skin, where we were born, and our beliefs was given a heart.  A heart that beats. A heart that feels love. A heart capable of loving.  A heart that can feel compassion. We were also given a brain. A brain to think with and a brain to dream with.  God also gave each one of us a set of eyes. Beautiful eyes of a different color to view life whether good or bad. They say that our eyes are the windows to our soul.  How is your soul?

In His amazing creation, He gave each one of us a good dose of conscience. You know the little inner voice that starts in our brain when we are faced with making a right or wrong decision or when our morals come into play. The little voice that works its way into our heart then waits and hopes, that the right choice will be made.

Just like the soft breeze drifts from tree to tree, swirling softly,  gently touching each green leaf, creating a rustling calmness we, through our innate love, can make a difference.

We can start by remembering that we were all created in His image.  It doesn’t matter the color of one’s skin or the language we speak, it is what is in our hearts that counts. God looks at each person’s heart. He is looking for love. What will He see when He looks at yours? Are you loving, forgiving, willing to lend a hand, or guide a child? How about helping those less fortunate or making a meal for a neighbor?

Will He see someone who is kind and selfless or someone who is selfish and thinks nothing of berating those who are not on his or her level?  What will He think if you discriminate against those who dress differently, live differently or love differently? How about those who think differently?  What would the Man who created us think?  Maybe this verse might help; “Ye without sin, cast the first stone.”

I believe that God purposely created humans who were different to teach us to love as He loved us. Let’s face it, we are all different whether it be the color of our skin, the shape of our eyes, our beliefs, or our lifestyles.  One thing we have in common is our heart. So what will He find in your heart?  Let’s embrace our differences and learn from each other.   God’s words to us; “Love one another as I have loved you.”

We need to bound together in love during these sad times when men, women, and children are losing or have lost their lives through terrorist attacks.  These attacks are senseless, and cruel, and certainly not of love.  His words to us; ” Fear not for I am with you. Be strong and of good courage.”

So dear friends, we can find peace in our hearts, if we can show compassion to all we meet, forgive those who have hurt us, be accepting to all, and above everything else; love unconditionally.  Be the soft breeze to everyone who crosses your path. Shine your hope and faith to all and together we can truly make a difference.

” Give, and it will be given to you….For with the       measure you use it will be measured back to you.”
