Once upon a time in Heaven, God walked through His beautiful gardens in the Valley of Peace. It was a place He always went when it was time to choose a new angel. Although the waiting list was long for those who wanted to serve Him, God wanted someone who had recently journeyed to Heaven. Someone who glowed with love and kindness above all the others.
As God continued His walk, He noticed a woman sitting by a pond next to a climbing, twinning pink baby rose covering every inch of a medium size tree. Its clumps of delicate petals looked like tiny teacups ready to savor warm raindrops. Its beauty covered every branch forming the shape of a heart, emanating the pure love of Heaven.
God stood by the beautiful tree as the woman, moved her hand softly through the calm water, back and forth, and back and forth. He watched as the woman smiled without saying a word, as she looked at the tiny goldfish swimming silently in the clear water.
He smiled, feeling her love. Without saying a word, God sat down next to the woman and gazed at every inch of her face, then held out His hand. The woman gently placed her shaky hand in His and immediately a feeling of peace surpassed everything she had ever felt, settled into her heart.
Slowly, she gazed at His face, soaking in the rays of love. Above her sitting on branches of the beautiful tree were hundreds of birds, of all sizes and colors singing their praises to the Man who created them. Off to the side, and around the pond, every animal under the sun stood, sat, or lay down talking in their own way offering their love to God.
Soon, God raised His hand, and all the birds and all the animals became silent. God looked at the woman and said, ” Are you the woman who lived in Kentucky? In the Holler? The woman who was happy even when there was very little? The woman whose father worked in a coal mine?” The woman silently shook her head, yes. “Are you the woman who washed her little sister’s dress in the creek after she fell in the mud?” Once again, the woman shook her head, yes. “Are you the woman who was always loving and kind to everyone she met?” Again, the nod, yes.
God looked at the woman and said, “Delphia, I can feel your loving kindness. I see your pure heart. Your sparkling blue eyes radiate the help you gave to others never expecting anything in return. Your faith is as strong and vibrant as a rainbow’s colors arced in the sky. You are a faithful servant.”
The woman looked at God and asked, ” It’s true what I have heard that you know everything about us; even my deepest thoughts.” God nodded, yes.
After a few minutes, God looked at Delphia and smiled, Just at that moment, a smaller angel walked up and sat down next to her. She put her arm around Delphia and waited for God to speak. ” Delphia, each year, I add an angel to My Heavenly Host. Today, I choose you.” Delphia’s eyes filled with tears of happiness. She had always loved Him. And, she always tried to do her best, for Him.
Delphia looked at God and thanked Him. She smiled as she looked at the angel Roberta, who hugged her and kissed her on her cheek. God waited for a few minutes then told Delphia, she would soon be traveling back to the Holler for a special assignment; a Christmas assignment.
Stay tuned for part two of Delphie’s story.
