Today was rainy and damp. It was a perfect day to start putting up my many trees. I was able to put up three and completely decorate one. The military tree is the first one to get decked out and in my mind the most meaningful. Although, I really do love all the others, too.

We are a dedicated Navy blue and gold family, but this time of the year my heart belongs to all those serving in any Military Branch.

As I hung each ornament on the white tree, I thought about all the men and women serving. Many of them will be home for the holidays, including my two grandsons.  But many will not.

I thought about all the families, getting ready for the season, knowing that someone will be missing. I thought about the children who might have a mother or father serving far away from home. I pictured Christmas morning, presents under the tree, filled stockings, cookies, and a delicious dinner. Then, I picture tears of sadness softly sneaking out of their eyes, missing the one they love. I must admit, that thought actually made me cry.

I thought about my son who was deployed many years ago when the tensions in the world were almost to the brink. And how lucky and blessed we were to have him come home safe and sound. My thoughts then turned to all those who never made it back.  Once again, tears filled my eyes.

The red, white and blue tree is finished, but my prayers are not. Before I go to bed tonight, I plan on praying a short prayer for those serving.

Tomorrow morning, tomorrow night, and every day until the tree is undecorated and put away, prayers will be said for all those who serve. Yes, I love my Navy family, but more than anything, I hope for peace. The peace that will bring all those who serve home.

Wishing all those who are serving now, and those who have served, along with their families, a Merry Christmas!
