TIMELESS TALENT TUESDAY

I often hear people say, ” I don’t have any talents. I wish I could write a story. Or, I wish I could paint a picture.” The wishes for wanting a talent are endless.  However, I am here to tell you that everyone has a gift; a gift that is timeless. Skills are not always artistic, sports-related, beautiful voices, or acting on the big screen. Some talents might be more subtle yet equally gratifying to those who give and to those who receive.

Let me ask you a question, what is your passion?  Another question, what fills your heart with joy?

These two questions are the basis of this Christmas story. I chose this time of the year because there is so much joy in the season.  A pleasure that might only last throughout the holiday, or be the beginning of a timeless passion.

Sometimes, our talents or gifts are realized through grief, illness, or a drastic change in our lives, but none the less they can become our talents.

I know of a few men and women who have had life-threatening illnesses. As a result of the devastating ordeal, hospital stays, the pain, the treatments, and the recovery, many say that they would not have been able to manage, without the support of family, friends, and volunteers. Because of the experience of positive encouragement, and a shoulder to lean on, passion blossomed in the hearts of those who were or remain ill, leading to help others in the same situations. Hearts, words, prayers, and encouragement became their gifts, making a difference in other’s lives.

Grief can come in many forms, the loss of a loved one, a job, a pet, a divorce, or even moving to a new home or location. However, many find their talents during this time.  Some might volunteer with Hospice, or an animal shelter, or become involved with a support group. They share their talents of a giving heart to those in need.

Christmas seems to bring out the generosity in people. They might donate toys for children, food for a Christmas dinner, or coats, hats, socks, gloves, scarves, or boots to a shelter.  It brings joy to their hearts to reach out to those in need. Some of those folks, do not stop when the holidays do.  Their passion is to help those who are less fortunate year round.

This whole story has a common thread; loving kind hearts who want to make a difference.  Their passion is fueled by love and carried out by the joy of helping others.  Their gifts of strength, encouragement, hugs, faith, hope, and love are timeless.  I thank God, for those who possess, the talent or gift of service to others. You are a real blessing.
