Today was a lovely day. I had lunch with my sister, Donna and her husband, Albert. They were entertaining Albert’s Mom, Jane and her companion, Pat. We ate delicious hoagies and birthday cake. The cake was in honor of Albert’s upcoming birthday. My husband, Rick and I had a great time. It is always nice to be with those we love.
This story is important to me. It is about a young eighty-something man and woman who hold a special place in my heart. Let’s start with Jane. Jane has a one of a kind soul that shines where ever she goes. Many years ago, my late Mother had a brain tumor. She had her surgery at the University of Pennsylvania, in Philadelphia. Her operation was successful. However, she needed to stay close to Philadelphia. Since we lived an hour and a half away, Mom stayed with Jane, and her late husband, Al. They took care of my mother in their home for about six months. They never complained. Jane loved her as if she was her own mother. I am thankful for the kindness and excellent care that was given to Mom during that difficult time. Jane is a very loving woman who loves her family with her whole heart. We all love her with our entire heart too.
Jane has a beautiful southern drawl. I love to hear her talk. She enjoys flowers, sewing, reading, going to the movies, traveling, and helping others. Although she has a few health issues, she continues to spread her love. My mother always enjoyed Jane’s phone calls and visits. She and Mom would sit, drink coffee and talk.
Each time my mother’s health took a turn, Jane knew what to say to comfort her. When Mom passed, Jane was there to support us with her hugs. She cried with us. Then told us if we needed anything, to just call. When my sister, Emma passed, Jane was unable to come, but her love for our family was there.
I could certainly fill a lot of pages sharing the beautiful qualities Jane has, like her generous heart and her love for Jesus. About five years ago, God brought a wonderful man into Jane’s life. His name is Pat.
Pat is a great man filled with kindness and love for his family and friends. He is gentle, fun-loving, and plays beautiful music on the piano. Pat is intelligent, enjoys reading, and really cares about Jane. How wonderful is that?
Today, after we had our lunch and enjoyed birthday cake, this dear man gave me some much-needed advice. Although this might sound trivial to those reading this story, it was exactly what I needed to hear. And for that I am grateful. I also need to mention that this sweet man and his family, touched my heart so profoundly that I wrote a couple of short stories about them. In fact, Pat thought of the perfect title for my book; Meatballs and Minestrone.
Jane and Pat are perfect for each other. I see it in their eyes and the genuine love they share. I love them both very much.
A while ago, I wrote a story about the people we meet on our path. I am a firm believer that things happen for a reason. I believe that we are in the families we were born into because it was part of God’s plan. I think that strangers we meet along the way were sent to us for a reason; either to teach us or learn lessons from us. I am so grateful that Jane was on my families path. Her love has helped us through some difficult times. By her example, she has filled our lives with grace, hope, and love.
I believe that Pat was sent to Jane to help heal her heart and fill her life with joy. I think that Jane was sent to Pat to fill his heart with love and bring him happiness.
Their presence is a continuing story filled with respect, helping each other during illnesses, a zest for life, companionship, and love. They are perfect role models for how life should be lived. I for one am so happy that they are in my life. Jane and Pat are treasures like diamonds and gold. The lessons I have learned from both of them have been a wonderful blessing.
Who is on your path? Who has filled your heart with joy? Who is a blessing to you?
